Salaam Bombay is a heartrending account of the plight of Krishna, a ten year old boy, who is thrown out by his family and abandoned by his new friends in a travelling circus. He comes like so many other homeless and friendless young people to Bombay – The City of Dreams. He ends up in Bombay’s red light district where he is shown the ropes by a drug addict and a prostitute. Krishna learns how to survive in the streets of a dirty and crowded city. Salaam Bombay will astonish and dismay you as you follow the unbelievable deprivations endured by this hungry and homeless young boy who seems condemned by fate to a hopeless future.

This small book is full of the heart rending stories of some of the boys who have passed through Shelter .

Mission Shikshan is a new initiative from Shelter Mumbai in which a core team of volunteers in India are combining their performing skills and business acumen to help provide education for underprivileged children. This small book tells the boys stories and introduces some of those who volunteered to help.
