Shelter UK started in 2003 after a meeting with Barnabe D’Souza who was completing his doctoral theses at Worcester University. During this time he was staying at the parish house of Our Lady Queen of Peace. We struck up a friendship as both of us had been pupils at a Salesian Schools. Giles Goward our parish priest at the time visited Barnabe at Shelter Don Bosco Mumbai in 2006. On his return he spoke of the many projects that had grown out of the needs of the boys at Shelter. A group of people in our parish together with Ann and myself resolved to do whatever we could to raise awareness and funds for Shelter. We became a registered charity in July 2006. Things started slowly and in the early years we raised a few hundred pounds each year. In 2008 I visited Shelter with Father Giles Goward. We visited each of the projects emanating from Shelter. I quickly realised that, even though Shelter helped as many as funds and facilities permitted, there were still thousands undiscovered and trapped in the spiral of violence and abuse. If you are able, and have a heart for these boys, please consider a donation. It really will make a difference. Mike. | ||||
